Of the nearly 1,892 hospitals in America that met eligibility requirements, only 152 medical centers were ranked among the best by U.S. News & World Report this year. Ranked on factors like reputation, survival rates, procedure volume, nurse staffing, and technology, the top hospitals in 16 medical specialties are selected. This year, Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak was ranked among the nation's best in six specialties.
Surgeons at Beaumont, Troy have the capability to perform minimally invasive robotic surgery in urology using the da Vinci Si® Surgical System. Minimally invasive options are also available for gynecology, plastic surgery, orthopedics, vascular surgery and general surgery. Available at all three Beaumont hospitals, the benefits of this high-definition technology are clear: smaller incisions, less bleeding, less scarring, less risk of infection, less pain and faster recovery times.
A Royal Oak man was the first patient to receive a liver transplant through Beaumont’s new multi-organ transplant program. Under the leadership of Alan J. Koffron, M.D., director of multi-organ transplantation, Beaumont expanded its 38-year-old kidney transplant program to include liver transplants. Beaumont’s transplant team includes three surgeons, two hepatologists, two transplant nephrologists, transplant nurses, a social worker, a patient financial advisor and administrative staff.

Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak became Michigan’s third liver transplant center on Aug. 31. A 59-year-old man from Royal Oak was the first patient to receive a liver transplant through Beaumont’s new multi-organ transplant program.
Healthy Heart Screening for Students - Saturday, October 16
A Healthy Heart Screening for high school students is taking place Saturday, October 16, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the Oakland University Recreation and Athletic Center. This program features an in-depth heart screening with a medical history review, blood pressure assessment and an electrocardiogram (EKG) - all reviewed by a Beaumont doctor. This screening helps look for the potential risk of sudden cardiac death. This is a no-cost screening to benefit families with high school students. Register now.
