Beaumont strongly believes that valid outcomes data is a critical component of the quality improvement process. Without such data, we would not know what areas we need to improve upon. For this reason, the Division of General Surgery participates in the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP).
In this program, specially trained Beaumont nurses collect specific preoperative, intraoperative and post-operative metrics. These metrics are input into a prospective, peer controlled, validated database for the purpose of monitoring surgical care and benchmarking Beaumont against its peers. Results are used to help direct future quality improvement initiatives within our organization and to highlight new areas for enhancing the care we deliver.
