High Definition Robotic Surgery
Minimally invasive surgery at Beaumont is nothing short of amazing. Using high definition technology, surgeons at Beaumont now offer specialized robotic surgery in urology, gynecology, cardiology, general surgery and oncology. Real-time, 3-D imaging and micro-technology offers Beaumont surgeons more accurate visualization, meaning greater precision and improved clinical outcomes. This technology is available at all three hospital locations, Grosse Pointe, Royal Oak, and Troy.
Beaumont, Royal Oak is a multi-specialty training center for robotic surgery and has used at least one form of the da Vinci robot since 2002 for lung, urologic and heart surgeries. In 2009, surgeons at Grosse Pointe performed its first surgery using the da Vinci robot and in 2010, Troy performed its first surgery using the robot.
This system combines the knowledge and skills of the surgeon with precise manipulation of surgical instruments. Using Intuitive's da Vinci Surgical System, our surgeons operate while seated at a console, viewing a 3-D image of the surgical field. The surgeon's fingers grasp the master controls below the display while the system translates the surgeon's hand, wrist and finger movements into precise, real-time movements of surgical instruments inside the patient.
For our patients, the benefits of this new technology are clear: smaller incisions, less bleeding, less scarring, less risk of infection, less pain and faster recovery times. Lean more about the benefits of robotic surgery here.
The technology is also used for training residents, fellows and attending physicians in the Marcia and Eugene Applebaum Surgical Learning Center.
About Intuitive Surgical
Intuitive Surgical leads the development and commercialization of robotic technology designed to extend the benefits of minimally invasive surgery to broadest possible base of patients. Intuitive’s products can provide surgeons with all the clinical and technical capabilities of traditional open surgery while enabling them to operate through tiny incisions.
Epicenter for General Robotic Surgery
Its commitment to leading the field in robotically-assisted surgery has earned Beaumont Hospital, Troy a designation as an Epicenter for General Robotic Surgery.
As an Epicenter, Beaumont, Troy hosts surgeons from around the country who wish to train in robotic surgery. Beaumont, Troy is the only hospital in Michigan to serve as a General Surgery Epicenter, which means it is one of the top performing centers in the country for robotic surgery.
