CPR and ACLS
Advanced Cardiac Life Support
This course is intended for physicians and other health care professionals whose primary focus is in the assessment and treatment of cardiovascular emergencies.
BLS: Health Care Provider Class
The basic life support healthcare provider class is designed by the American Heart Association for healthcare professionals.

This class is for the health care provider who is currently certified through the American Heart Association.

This three-hour class trains participants in the lifesaving skills of CPR and relief of choking for adult, infants and children.
Heart Saver Pediatric First Aid
This CPR and First Aid class is designed by the American Heart Association for anyone who wants or needs pediatric first-aid training. This six hour course teaches the skills of CPR for all ages, the use of AED and relief of foreign body airway obstruction.
Heartsaver AED
This class is designed by the American Heart Association for the lay responder who needs CPR and AED certification.

This multi-session class teaches expectant mothers and their birth companions deep relaxation techniques for labor and birth.

Gestational Diabetes Education Program
Expectant moms learn about diabetes management, nutritional counseling, glucometer use and, if necessary, insulin administration.
Great Expectations: An Early Pregnancy Class
This class is for pregnant women and their support persons up to 24 weeks of pregnancy. Women planning a pregnancy are also welcome.
Obstetrical Tours
An obstetrical tour at Beaumont Hospitals will include the Birthing Care Centers and Mother/Baby areas. A question and answer period will follow the tour.
Prenatal Exercise
This five-session class teaches you how to have a more comfortable pregnancy while remaining in good physical condition.
Preparing for Breastfeeding
This one-session class on breastfeeding techniques and issues is for expectant mothers and fathers.

As Your Baby Grows Series
Join other expectant and new parents to learn about infant development and parenting issues from birth to age three!
Baby Care and Safety
This one-session class teaches basic care and safety for baby's first year. Topics include baby characteristics, holding, bathing, feeding, diapering, burping, crying, sleeping, illness and safety concerns.
Beginning Discipline: The Toddler Years
In this one-session class learn how to channel youthful energy without dampening the spirit and discipline without bruising your child's self-esteem. Enjoy an enthusiastic and positve presentation that will provide parents with tools and strategies for creative parenting.
Big Brother- Big Sister Program
During this class, children ages 3 - 8 learn what their new baby brother or sister will be like. Parents learn about sibling relationships and adjustments.
CPR for Family & Friends

Certified Sitter
This two-session class is for children age's 10-16 years old. This class will focus on the responsibilities and challenges of babysitting. The course will include lectures, group discussions and role-playing.
For Dads Only - A Class for New Fathers
This class teaches expectant dads about their role as a new father. Topics include feeding, holding, changing, bathing, crying, sleeping, signs of illness and child development and safety.
Grandparents Class
Grandparents can give needed support to new families. Learn what to expect with a new grandchild, changes in care since your child was young, safe care of a newborn, car seat safety, comfort issues grandparents can help with, gift ideas and much more.
Happiest Baby on the Block
Learn an innovative approach to quickly calm crying babies and help them sleep longer. Class is taught by a certified instructor. Focus is on new born babies to 4 months old. Sleep patterns, problems, and safety issues are also addressed. Class includes a DVD, a calming sound CD and handouts.
Infant Massage
This four-session course guides families through a research based massage routine that promotes healthy parent-child relationships, supports physical growth and development, enhances vital early brain connections while nurturing growing communications in families.
Love and Logic
Parenting with Love and Logic: Early Childhood is a program designed specifically for parents with children from birth to six years of age. Join us for an energizing day of parent training.
Signing with Baby
This exciting new course is designed to help parents effectively communicate with their babies, long before their babies can talk. Current research shows that babies can learn simple signs at about 7 months of age.
Wills, Legal Guardianship and Financial Planning for Families
What are you doing to plan for your children's welfare and financial security? This class for parents discusses the need to have a will and how to plan for your financial future.
Yoga for Mom and Tot
This imaginative six class course combines basic yoga moves and breathing with creative and interactive storytelling while providing an opportunity for children to practice their sensory and motor skills. Children interact with their mom and other children. Recommended for ages 3-5 years old.
Diabetes
Diabetes 101
This class is for anyone looking to better understand Diabetes. Class topics include the risk factors, different types and effects of the condition. If you've been newly diagnosed with Diabetes, or are caring for someone who has the disease, you won't want to miss this class.
Diabetes Camp
Children with diabetes ages 6 - 11 enjoy learning and socializing at this annual one-day camp.
Diabetes Education
This program is designed to help people with diabetes effectively manage the disease. Classes are open to people with diabetes, friends and caregivers. Physician referral is required.

Pre-Diabetes Education
This one-session class is designed to help people who are at risk for developing Type 2 diabetes to identify their risk factors and make lifestyle changes to delay or prevent the disease. The session is followed by a private consultation with a dietitian.
Pre-Diabetes Nutrition
If you have difficulty losing weight, and your blood pressure, blood cholesterol and blood sugar have been going up, you may have insulin resistance. Insulin resistance increases your chance of developing cardiovascular disease, stroke and/or Type II diabetes. This is a three session class addressing nutrition and exercise. The class is taught by a registered dietitian and exercise specialist.
Eating Disorders
Adolescent Skills - Building Group
This eight-week session will empower adolescents up to age 18 in their recovery process. This is designed as a companion to the Parent Coaching Program.
Introduction to the Maudsley/Family Based Approach to Eating Disorders
Sponsored by the Hough Center for Eating Disorders, this 90 minute seminar is for parents only. This session provides an opportunity for parents to connect with other parents experiencing similar situations. Learn more about this treatment appoach and see if it is right for you and your family.
Parent Coaching Group
This eight-week session will assist parents in effectively supporting their adolescents through the recovery process of an eating disorder, while simultaneously provdiing education and support. This group assists parents of adolescents up to 18 years old.
Fitness
20/20/20
This class is guaranteed to keep you challenged and motivated with 20 minutes of cardio, 20 minutes of strength workout and 20 minutes of floor work, including flexibility and balance.
Better Bones Workout
Research suggests that weight training can help reduce the risk of osteoporosis and improve your muscle strength and bone density. Come join us for a safe and effective workout on a Nautilus® circuit. Cardio equipment is also available.
Chair Yoga
Come experience the benefits of yoga practice without having to be on the floor. We will use a chair as support for seated and standing postures. Find a new connection to your body by moving, stretching and strengthening all major muscle groups with a mindful and powerful breath.
Classic Stretch
As we age, our muscles tighten and we have less range of motion in our joints. A regular stretching program can help lengthen muscles and make daily activities easier. Other benefits include relief from pain, increased energy levels, improved posture and greater circulation of blood to various parts of the body. Floor exercises included.
Midlife Fitness
Bone density and loss of muscle are two physical concerns for the midlife group. Class includes a variety of fitness components such as aerobics, strength and conditioning, stretching and balance exercises. Participants at all fitness levels are welcome.
Morning Yoga
Explore the gentle movements of yoga to increase flexibility, strength and total well-being.
Pickleball
Active seniors are quickly becoming addicted to Pickleball. It's a fun game played on a badminton court with the net lowered to 34 inches at the center. It is played with a plastic baseball (similar to a whiffle ball) and wood or composite paddles. Bring a friend and give it a try. No equipment necessary. Wear gym shoes and workout clothes.
Senior Strength
The class is geared for participants with physical limitations who want to regain or maintain strength and bone density. Exercises are performed with chairs, using light weights and resistance tubing. NuSteps, stationary bikes and treadmills are also available. There are no floor exercises in this class.
Senior Vigor
Strength training at any age helps to support bones and joints, as well as improve coordination, muscle control and mobility. This class uses 12-Nautilus weight machines and cardio equipment such as treadmills, bikes and NuSteps. It is geared to the participant who wants to maintain an independent lifestyle by improving overall energy, strength, flexibility and range of motion.
SeniorFit
These classes welcomes anyone over age 60, at any fitness level. Workout includes a cardiovascular (aerobic) segment, muscle conditioning, and flexibility training. Fun music will keep you moving and motivated all hour long? Floor exercises included.
Tai Chi for Health
All levels are welcome, two instructors will be available at each class and participants will be divided into groups by experience/abilities. Simple exercises using slow, gentle movements to help improve circulation & balance, promote muscle strength & flexibility, encourage healthy breathing, reduce physical and emotional stress.
Weight Training Made Easy / Body Composition
Want to start a weight training program but don't know where to start? How about in the comfort of your living room?
Through active participation, this class will show you how to use weights to improve your strength without bulking up. Immediately following the class, you can participate in a Body Fat Clinic. Learn how much of your body is fat vs. lean tissue. There is no fee for this event.
Women and Weights
This exercise program focuses on strengthening and toning major muscles as well as creating a stronger, healthier body. Hand and leg weights, body balls, body bars are all used to target problem areas. Participants at all levels of fitness are welcome.
You can sign up for 1-hour a week, 2-hours a week or unlimited classes.
Yoga
Based on Hatha Yoga, this program blends balance, strength, flexibility and power in a fitness format. It combines fitness moves such as push-ups, sit-ups and squats with traditional yoga postures linked together in a flowing fitness format.
Zumba
Participants achieve long-term benefits while having a blast in a 1-hour calorie-burning, body-energizing, awe-inspiring class!

These Classes are designed for anyone who wants to know how to lower their cholesterol or triglycerides, lower their blood pressure, better manage their diabetes or lose weight. There are two classes in a series.
Heart Failure Classes
This series of four classes is designed to educate yourself and your family on how to manage and take better control of heart failure.
Living with Heart Failure Workshop
Join our supervised exercise program combining both education and lecture. The program is designed to help you learn all about heart failure - understanding symptoms and treatment, medications, diet, exercise, stress management and more.
Nursing Courses
Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course
This course is designed to establish a consistent knowledge base for nurses involved in the care of the pediatric patient. The Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course is a nationally standardized basic pediatric nursing course developed by the Emergency Nurse Association.
Trauma Nursing Core Course
This course is designed to establish a consistent knowledge base for nurses involved in the initial care of the trauma patient. This Trauma Nursing Core Course is a nationally standardized basic trauma nursing course developed by the Emergency Nurses Association.
Older Adult

The goal of the group is to develop good handwriting habits using adaptations of the Handwriting - Without Tears program.
Buddy Group
The focus of this group setting is on higher level life skills development and is designed to teach and to encourage social interactions with a group environment.
Chatty Chefs
This is an expressive language and occupational therapy group designed to help children carryover skills learned in treatment.
Feeding Groups
Specialized feeding groups are offerred throughout the year at various times based on patient need.
Martial Arts Therapy
A professional martial arts instructor specializing in children with special needs and a physical therapist or occupational therapist will lead the program.
Movement/Dance
This therapeutic program will instruct children in various forms of movement, gymnastics and dance. This group is designed to improve balance, flexibility, motor planning and coordination.
Pre Handwriting Skills
The goal of the group is to develop foundational skills in the area of motor, sensory, social, cognitive and visual perception.
Ready for Fun - A Multidisciplinary Approach/Social Interaction Focus
This is a structured group setting that will provide activities to encourage skill development in the areas of speech-language, physical and occupational therapy.
Swim Groups
These groups use basic swim skills in an interactive and fun environment to improve strength, range of motion and more.
Vision Groups
Specialized vision groups are offerred throughout the year. These groups focus on visual gathering and visual perception skills.
Surgical Specialties
Back on Track
If you are about to have back-fusion surgery, it is likely your physician will recommend you attend this class to gain valuable information to make your surgery go smoothly.
H.O.P.E.
Before you get a total knee replacement, total hip replacement or lumbar thoracic fusion and instrumentation surgery attend H.O.P.E class.
Hysterectomy Class
To help you prepare for surgery and post-operative care, you are invited to attend this informative hysterectomy class.
Joint Adventure
This class is specifically designed for patients having hip and knee joint replacement surgery to make your surgery, hospital stay and recovery go as smooth as possible.
Lifestyle Change Lecture Series
This is a series of lectures on a variety of health related topics. These lectures are presented by Beaumont health care professionals.
Surgical Safari
Using demonstrations, a slide show and a tour through the operating suite, this class helps relieve anxieties among children who face outpatient surgery at Beaumont.
Transplant Education for Patients
Members of our transplant team will discuss kidney transplants in order to prepare patients and their families for surgery and post-transplant care.
Weight Control & Nutrition
Build a Better Lunch
Struggling to pack a healthy lunch? Maybe you're suffering from "mundane lunch box syndrome" and need some fresh ideas! This class will show you how to include a variety of food groups, colors and textures to create a delicious-and nutritious-lunch. Leave with practical suggestions and menus, as well as tips about preparing lunches in advance.
Cooking Class
Learn how to make healthy meals that are delicious and satisfying. Participants will have the opportunity to sample recipes.
Weight Control Seminars
Beaumont Hospital's Weight Control Center specializes in the treatment of people who are mildly to severely overweight. The Center holds free weekly seminars for people who would like to learn about the Beaumont Diet.
Cancer (Oncology)
Look Good Feel Better
This two-hour hands on workshop will help you regain self-confidence and cope with the side effects of cancer treatment that affect your appearance.
Silver Linings
This eight-week wellness program is for women who have completed cancer treatment and/or are on long-term medical therapy.
