Samuel Flanders, M.D., Executive Vice President of Quality, Safety and Clinical Effectiveness
Samuel Flanders, M.D., serves as executive vice president of Quality, Safety and Clinical Effectiveness for Beaumont Health System. He is responsible for oversight of quality and all safety functions and for the work of Beaumont’s Clinical Integration Councils.
He joined Beaumont in 2008 as senior vice president and chief quality and safety officer.
Before coming to Beaumont, Dr. Flanders was the senior vice president of medical quality at Clarian Health Partners (now Indiana University Health) in Indianapolis, Ind., where he built benchmarking and project management tools to track quality, designed and taught performance improvement to employees, and created tools to standardize and improve the safety and efficacy of medication administration.
Dr. Flanders earned his bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Michigan. He then attended the University of Illinois College of Medicine and completed his residency in Pediatrics at Methodist Hospital of Indiana.
In 1989, Dr. Flanders co-founded the Diabetes Youth Foundation of Indiana to support, educate and encourage children with type 1 diabetes to better manage their disease through camping programs. Dr. Flanders has served as President of the DYFI since 2005 and volunteers as a camp physician each summer.
Dr. Flanders is also a clinical associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine and fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
